Braintree
 

Welcome to Braintree. This series of work was made about a year after my graduation from university. The paintings were made at a time I had been diagnosed with a mental illness. They became a way for me to express myself in a positive dynamic. 

 

The subject matter of the paintings and the style in which they are painted came about through introspection and internal conflict. They were never made to be shown or displayed in public; however some have now been sold. These are some of my most personal works and helped me maintain a progressive and positive mental state through a time of much upheaval in my life. 

When these were being created, I did not have a plan of what I wanted to make when I put brush to canvas. The imagery and composition came about through the natural and highly emotional process of creation, as did their titles. The unplanned element considering the symbols I subvertly I hope has a connotation of the confusion, suicidal loneliness vexed through the lens of someone who intently wants to strive to be better.
